NAD+/NADH ratios after ATPase inhibition
What happens to NAD+/NADH ratios in a cell after treatment with a mitochondrial ATPase inhibitor?
While NAD+ and NADH do not enter and exit mitochondria, electrons from the conversion of NADH to NAD+ are carried by metabolites across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Hence, inhibiting mitochondrial ATPase will decrease NAD+/NADH ratios in both the cytosol and the mitochondrial matrix.
