What happens in plant cells if the pH of the chloroplast stroma is lower than the thylakoid space?
A higher concentration of protons in the chloroplast stoma versus the thylakoid space creates a proton gradient that is necessary for the production of ATP needed for the Calvin Cycle. Hence, a low pH in the chloroplast stroma will decrease the conversion rate of CO2 to sugars.
